Bronze Knife with Sheath - Benin

An absolutely stunning example of Benin bronze, this piece would have been carved out of wax and then covered in clay. Once fired, the wax would melt while a mould of the piece is created with the clay. Molten bronze is poured into the mould, resulting in a wonderfully detailed piece of weaponry and art.
