This simple but beautifully proportioned piece exemplifies the pride in craftsmanship that Indian artisans are known for. Note how he takes pride in using dovetail jointing (as opposed to glue!) to connect one plane of the chest to another and uses a contrasting timber to accentuate this traditional function. It is designed for practical household storage yet does not neglect elegance as seen in the plinth detail. It could serve as a coffee table, side table or storage at the end of a bed and bring with it a textural warmth and character.
