A large Tonga stool from Zambia, hand carved from timber with a broad, gently dished seat and a substantial rounded base. The openwork central support is shaped with bold angular cut-outs and a curved side brace, giving the form both architectural strength and sculptural character. Its richly worn surface reveals the grain, tool marks and varied tones of the timber, making it a distinctive low seat or grounding accent beside a chair, at the end of a bed or in an entryway.
