Unglazed Meiping Pot
Hand-thrown in high-fired clay and left unglazed, this meiping pot has a velvety charcoal-black surface with soft firing shadows and natural variations in tone. Originating in China, the meiping form was traditionally used for wine and later for single plum branches, its narrow base, full shoulders and small mouth echoing a poised human figure. Style this piece solo on a console or dining table, or add a few bare branches for a striking, sculptural accent in a pared-back interior.
