Large Porcelain Yen-Yen Vase
This Yen-Yen vase is beautifully decorated featuring a lively scene with animals, birds, and stylized plants, on a white ground, representing the classic "famille verte" style. The green gets its colour from copper oxide, iron-red from iron or colloidal gold, yellow from iron, and blue from cobalt. The colours are mixed with lead and quartz, then painted as enamels on the fired porcelain and fixed in a low-temperature kiln to create this elegant piece. Traditionally the Yen Yen shaped vase has three main sections: a flared foot, a bulbous mid‑section, and a tall trumpet‑shaped neck that widens subtly towards the rim to create an elegant vase.
