This Indian dowry chest is one of the most exquisite examples of this traditional genre. These chests were part of a young girl’s life as she waited for the moment when a prospective husband, accompanied by parents and relatives, would be introduced to her and her family and the contents of the chest examined for the benefits of clothes, jewellery, household items, saris and embroidery it may contain. If satisfactory it improved her chances of marriage. It is a beautiful decorative piece and can be used for storage or as a standalone art objet in an entrance or patio, or even as a wine cellarette in the living room.

Avoid dragging or sliding heavy objects on the timber surface as it can scratch or damage the finish.
